The Stat-Track Story

The Stat-Track Story

Everyone has a story. Every player on the field has a reason they are giving every practice, every play, every moment their all. We at Stat-Track are the same way. Allows us to share our Stat-Track story with you.

Our Founder

Stat-Track’s founder is Tyler Porter, a serial entrepreneur focused on serving others however possible. Tyler grew up on the field and in the rink, playing many sports as a kid, including hockey and baseball. These were family affairs, as his goalie was his impenetrable little brother and the two were coached by their dad. As Tyler got older, his love of sports persisted as he made his way off the field and into the press box.

During the pandemic, Tyler took his love of sports and of technology to live-stream events to people social distancing. These events ranged from the church pews to the Friday night lights. Additionally, Tyler began commentating and broadcasting football, basketball, volleyball, and baseball games for his local high school. Here, he gained knowledge about sports, broadcasting, and community.

Stat-Track Story
Tyler working at the SEC Network

Tyler attends the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he studies Business Analytics. Today, he still stays involved in the sports world through his work at the SEC Network at Rocky Top. As a member of the crew, Tyler works in a variety of roles including cameraman, replay technician, and technical director to broadcast nearly every sport on the ESPN family of networks. One of his favorite memories of this role was working a Tennessee vs. Texas A&M baseball weekend where two games were on national broadcasts (ESPN and ESPN 2). The next season, these two teams faced in the College World Series where Tennessee won the baseball national championship.

Connecting the Pieces

As Tyler connected his experiences from his many roles and learning experiences, he found a need that existed that could be fulfilled with emerging technology. Each week, Tyler watched as coaches struggled to gather a full team to capture statistics, either on-camera or on the book. Even if the man-powered existed, the statistics kept tended to be inaccurate or just simple. This is where the Stat-Track story continues.

As Tyler studied statistics and analytics, he found that his expertise could pair well with his knowledge of both sports and broadcasting. Tyler sought to find a way to build a venture that combined his vast interests and created a product to a meaningful community. This fell naturally on the high school sports world.

Stat-Track was the perfect combination of worlds for Tyler. His work as a camera man at amateur and professional setting allowed him to know the capabilities needed to receive a high level game product from an automated camera. His studies in analytics and his time in broadcasting helped him understand the meaningful analytics for coaches. He also knew how to develop an engine capable of valuable dashboards to communicate the analytics to a wide audience. Lastly, he knew the needs of broadcasting and was able to make a strong streaming product that presents a great final product. Together, these all connected into what Stat-Track is today.
